In this class, students will learn the technical aspects of their cameras to go beyond snapshot photography. With gained knowledge of aperture settings, shutter speed, and lighting techniques, students will capture imagery that creates a narrative. In addition, they will expand their technological skills by learning to use free online editing software as a tool for image editing, enhancement, and manipulation. Students will be given projects that are built on themes that will guide the subject matter and focus.

All materials and equipment, including cameras are provided.

END OF TRIMESTER MARKETPLACE

At the end of the trimester, students will have the opportunity to sell their work at the Studio 345 Student Marketplace.

DRESS CODE

Photography student spend a lot of time outside so please dress for being outside. We prefer sneakers or foot-hugging sandals that are safe for the studio and outdoor activities. Please, no flip flips. All clothing should be machine washable.

PARKING AND ARRIVAL

Arts+ Uptown Studios (601 E. 5th St.): Drop off is from 3:30-4 p.m. Arts+ Studio 345 employees will wait on the sidewalk in front of the building entrance to guide your student from the car into the building during the first week. If you arrive for drop off after 4 p.m., you will need to park and bring your student into the building. Students will be dismissed at 5:30 p.m. and must be picked up by 5:45 p.m. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, please notify the Studio 345 Office at 704.248.3769.

For students who drive, parking can be accessed via the lot on 5th street (which is a one way street) just past the front entrance of the building. The lot can also be accessed on N. Alexander St. The arm for the parking lot will raise as you enter. Parking is free and you do not need a code to enter. Simply go to the gate and press the green exit button.
