String Orchestra Camp

For almost 20 years now, the Arts+ String Orchestra Camp never fails to impress! Join fellow student musicians from the Charlotte area for an incredible week of orchestra - this year featuring a Special Guest!

Camp Description

We will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Arts+ by welcoming our Summer Camp Guest Conductor: nationally recognized orchestra clinician, Frank Diaz, from Indiana University. We are thrilled to have Dr. Diaz, North Carolina's 2018 All-State Orchestra Conductor join our camp the second half of the week as our guest conductor for the Green and Blue Orchestras!

The Arts+ String Orchestra Camp is an exciting and life-changing camp! Why? Because young musicians from across the Charlotte area come together to learn, perform, and grow as musicians together. Filled with games, new music, three different orchestras, and chamber music experiences, our string campers are sure to make memories that last a lifetime. Our players will learn from and perform alongside top educators from the Charlotte Symphony and Charlotte-area schools. Camp will finish with a concert on Friday afternoon that is free and open to the public.

Our players will grow in confidence, hone their technique, and discover just what they're capable of as an orchestra player. Come join us to make some amazing music together!

Students will perform in one of three ensembles, based on experience:
Green Orchestra (8th-12th grade)
Blue Orchestra (5th-8th grade)
Red Orchestra (2nd-6th grade) **Brand new ensemble for young students who are ready to try out being in an orchestra!**

Student must have at least 9 months of instruction on their instrument.

Merit Awards of $50 toward camp tuition are available to students who are members of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Jr. Youth Orchestra, Union Youth Orchestra, Western Regional Orchestra Jr., All-State Regional Orchestra and CMS Middle or High School Honors Orchestra. Contact our Student Services Coordinator before completing your registration at 704.887.0291 to process a merit award.

Advanced students who have registered for String Orchestra Camp may audition (in early June) for a full-tuition scholarship to camp. The solo competition scholarship winner will perform their solo, with accompaniment at the final camp concert in July. Please email Camp Director Erica Hefner to schedule an audition time in early June. The winner will have their registration fee refunded upon selection by the audition committee.
