Camps

The Arts+ Band Camp has been a staple in the Charlotte region for over two decades. Students in grades 6th-12th will perform alongside and under the direction of the finest conductors and instructors from across Charlotte and the surrounding areas. Enjoy a week of bands, combos, improvisation, games, and master classes.

Students in our Green and Blue bands, open to experienced musicians in Grades 6-12, will also experience special sessions on interesting topics including jazz band, chamber music, improvisation, master classes, and theory.

Students in our new Band 101 camp, open to 6th-8th graders who have never been in a band before or who have some band experience but want to change instruments, will spend the week learning all of the fundamentals needed to successfully start a new musical journey, including instrument basics, instrument care, and starting techniques.

Camp will finish with a free concert on Friday afternoon, open to the public and featuring our solo competition winner. Come join us to make some amazing music together and create memories that will last a lifetime!

OUR BANDS
Green Band (8th-12th grade)
Blue Band (6th-8th grade)
Band 101: New Musicians or Musicians Changing Instruments (6th-8th grade)

PREREQUISITES
Green and Blue Bands: Students must have at least one school year's worth of instruction on their instrument and be able to read music for their instrument.
Band 101: No experience required, must be a rising 6th-8th grader. Available instruments are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.

INSTRUMENTS
Green and Blue Band Students should bring their own instrument. Band 101 students may bring their own instrument or borrow an Arts+ instrument during camp hours. You will specify in the registration form if you have your own. If you want to rent an instrument on your own, reach out to our camp director for recommendations on local shops who do instrument rentals.

END OF CAMP CONCERT
Campers will perform the music they have learned this week in a special concert on Friday, and camp will be dismissed at the concert's conclusion. Students will wear their camp t-shirts for the concert. Additional information will be sent out the week of camp.

MERIT AWARDS
Merit Awards of $50 toward camp tuition will be given to students who are members of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO), Youth Orchestras of Charlotte (YOC), Union Symphony Youth Orchestra (USYO), All-State Band, All-District Band, All-District Jazz Band, and All-County Band and Orchestra. Contact our Student Services Coordinator before completing your registration at registration@artsplus.org to process a merit award.

TALENT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES SOLO COMPETITION SCHOLARSHIP
We award two full-tuition scholarships based on audition, the Solo Competition Scholarship and the Tosco Music Scholarship. Advanced students who have registered may audition in June. Both scholarships are for the full camp tuition. The Solo Competition Scholarship winner will also have the honor of performing one movement of a concerto or a solo piece at the final camp concert. If you are interested in auditioning, please email bandcamp@artsplus.org to schedule an audition in June. The winner will have their tuition waived upon selection of the audition committee.

FINANCIAL AID
