Discover the creative possibilities of laser cutting in this hands-on, 4-week class designed for adults! This class is perfect for anyone who is curious about laser cutting, enjoys making things, or wants to learn how digital designs become physical creations. Over 4 weeks, you’ll learn the basics of creating and preparing an SVG file for laser cutting, explore simple design techniques, and gain confidence using a laser cutter. Each week builds on the last, taking you from an idea to a finished, ready-to-display creation. Your final project will be a personalized ornament that you design and bring to life.

In this class, you’ll learn:

• The basics of laser cutting and how the machine works
• What an SVG is and how it’s used for laser cutting
• How to create and edit a simple SVG design
• How to prepare a design for cutting and engraving
• Safe and proper use of a laser cutter
• How to turn your digital design into a finished ornament

PREREQUISITES

No prior laser cutting or design experience is required.

PARKING AND ARRIVAL

Arts+ Uptown Studios (601 E. 5th St): Parking can be accessed via the lot on 5th St. (which is a one-way street) just past the front entrance of the building. The lot can also be accessed on N. Alexander St. The arm for the parking lot will raise as you enter. Parking is free and you do not need a code to enter or exit. If the lot is full, parking can be found on the surrounding streets at meters.

When you enter the building, please sign in at the front desk using the iPads and enter ArtsPlus (Arts+) as the organization you are visiting. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and make an immediate left.

When you leave, please sign out at the front on the iPads. If you are parked in the parking lot, simply go to the gate and press the green exit button.
