Adult Art Workshop: Kitchen Table Printmaking

Explore printmaking without a press. No space? No equipment? No problem!

Workshop Description

Art Supply shortage got you down? Want a simple method to create wonderful works of art or useful holiday items like cards, gift wrap, or gift tags? Low tech printmaking to the rescue! Use simple items you most likely have in your home to learn some tried and true techniques to make your unique mark. Whether you have never printed, or are a seasoned printmaker who wants a refresher on some long forgotten techniques, join us for a virtual print-fest!

Participants are responsible for their own supplies.

  • Paint – tempera or acrylic
  • Cosmetic sponges or a cut up soft kitchen sponge
  • Crayons (paper peeled off)
  • Scissors
  • Paper – regular computer paper, brown wrapping paper, sketch book paper, all of these work fine
  • A place to put paint (palette or wax paper for easy clean up)
Suggested Items for printing*
  • String, old shoe laces, ribbon, yarn (any or all are fine)
  • Leaves – a great time to collect them
  • The netting from bags or fruit or vegetables
  • Bubble wrap
  • Texture shelf liner
  • Cardboard from a box (corrugated cardboard)
  • Lace scraps
**Vegetables – slices of onion, pepper, okra, celery, brussel sprouts, lettuce leaves (or any green leaves)
Any other textures around your house? Time to be a texture detective!!

Optional Items
  • Ink and brayer (only if you have them already)
  • Stamp pads
  • Watercolor (kid friendly like Crayola brand is great (also available in the supermarket)
  • Pencils
  • Glue sticks or white glue

*many of these items are available in the dollar store, supermarket, or possibly already in your own home!

** Best to slice ahead and let dry out for a day or two.

Artist Biography:
Diane Podolsky is a printmaker and book artist who has worked in the visual arts field professionally for over 30 years. She has worn many hats including exhibiting artist, teaching artist, arts administrator, gallery manager, curator, juror, and if there is anything else possible to do in this crazy field, she is fairly sure she has done that as well.  Diane has been fortunate to have taught printmaking as an artist in residence and faculty member for some fine museums and organizations and to have her work included in museum, library, corporate, and private collections.
