Junior Orchestra Camp

Camp Description

Designed for growing students who have little to no experience playing in an orchestra or ensemble, this camp will be dive into the world of string ensemble playing and take students to the next level as young musicians. Hosted at Northwest School of the Arts, our camp is a fun week of musical games, music and movement activities, small chamber ensembles, and an introduction to orchestra music and note reading to challenge us to be the best players we can be!

The camp will conclude on Friday with a concert to showcase all that the players have learned this week! If you've never played a string instrument before, our Discovering Strings Camp could be perfect for you! 

9:00 a.m. - Musicianship Class
10:10 a.m. - Snack Break
10:30 a.m. - Purple TIme: Rehearsal with Red and Blue Orchestras
11:00 a.m. - Guest Musician
11:30 a.m. - Chamber Ensemble Coachings
12:00 p.m. -  Lunch Break
12:30 p.m. - Art or Recess
1:00 p.m. - Orchestra Rehearsal
1:45 p.m. - Dalcroze Eurhythmics Class
2:30 p.m. - Pick Up

Campers will perform the music they have learned this week in a special concert on Friday, joining up with the older students in the String Orchestra Camp running simultaneously this week. The performance will be at 2 p.m. in the NWSA Auditorium, and camp will be dismissed at the concert's conclusion. Students will wear their camp t-shirts for the concert. Additional information will be sent out the week of camp.

Student must have at least 9 months of instruction on their instrument. Experience with note reading is not required.

Students should have their own instrument. Please contact our Camp Director if you need recommendations on instrument rentals/purchases.

  • Mask-wearing is optional for Arts+ students and faculty (both indoor and outdoor).
  • Though Arts+ is not requiring masks, it is important to note that if any partner site continues to require masks, Arts+ will follow these guidelines and enforce the same for our students, staff, and faculty at this location. We will be sure to communicate with you if the site of your program will continue to require mask-wearing.
  • Arts+ reserves the right to update this policy on a case-by-case basis when deemed necessary.  
  • If you are experiencing any Covid-like symptoms or have been recently exposed to anyone who has Covid-19, please stay home from your program that day.
