Faith Kressner
Teacher, musician, and Charlotte native Faith Kressner recently moved back to her hometown after completing an M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction Writing at New York University and a Bachelor of Arts from Furman University in both Music and English. As a performer, she has experience with a range of instruments, most prominently piano and saxophone, participating in everything from pit orchestras and solo recitals to NYU's 12-piece saxophone ensemble, premiering contemporary works for saxophone choir. Some of her earliest music experiences occurred right here in Charlotte through the wonderful programming of Arts+ (formerly known as Community School of the Arts, at the time).
In addition to teaching private music lessons, Faith teaches at a local Montessori school with pre-school aged children. Her specialties as an early childhood teacher are literacy, music, and movement, for which she draws on her experiences leading small-group programs for children discovering the principles of melody and rhythm for the first time. Her mission as a teacher of young children and students of all ages is to plant the seeds for a lifelong love of music. As such, she loves to incorporate movement activities, exploration, and a focus on the kind of encouragement that keeps students excited about playing music.
In her spare time, Faith also loves reading nonfiction, entertaining her pet rabbit, and triathlon training.
