Summer at Studio 345

During this summer program, students will discover various Studio 345 classes. Rising 8th-9th graders will start with Visual Art or Digital Art from 9-11 a.m. then move to Film/Photography from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In visual art, students will fully explore a variety of mediums including Chinese brushes and dip pen drawing techniques, bookmaking using accordion and hard backs techniques, and fun contour portraits. In digital art, students learn how to use state-of-the-art programs, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Topics will include animation and laser cutting. Instructors will help them create visual concepts that exhibit their personal voice and creativity.

In photography, students will learn studio lighting, photo editing, and camera techniques that will advance their skills as an artist. Taking students out into the street, this course is a chance to learn, in a way anyone can grasp, the basic insights and hidden secrets of photography. In film, students will learn how to make their ideas come to life. Whether it’s live-action narratives or stop motion, students will learn how to write a script, shoot and compose a scene, and edit a film. Students will use industry standard equipment and software to develop their skills and become indie filmmakers. 

LUNCH, SNACKS, WATER BOTTLES

If possible – have students bring a refillable water-bottle with their name on it.

We will provide a snack each day of granola bars, cereal bars, gluten free bars and nut free bars.

On the final day of each summer session, we will provide pizza at 12:30 for the students to enjoy for lunch. If they cannot have pizza, please have them bring a lunch the final Thursday of class.

DRESS CODE

Dress for a mess and hot weather! We prefer sneakers or foot-hugging sandals that are safe for the studio and outdoor activities. Please, no flip flips. All clothing should be machine washable.

PARKING AND ARRIVAL

Arts+ Uptown Studios (601 E. 5th St.): Drop off is from 8:45-9 a.m. each morning. Arts+ Studio 345 employees will wait on the sidewalk in front of the building entrance to guide your student from the car into the building during the first week. If you arrive for drop off after 9 a.m., you will need to park and bring your student into the building. Students will be dismissed at 1 p.m. and must be picked up by 1:15 p.m. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, please notify the Studio 345 Office at 704.248.3769.

For students who drive, parking can be accessed via the lot on 5th street (which is a one way street) just past the front entrance of the building. The lot can also be accessed on N Alexander St. The arm for the parking lot will raise as you enter. Parking is free and you do not need a code to enter. Simply go to the gate and press the green exit button.
