Frequently Asked Questions about Private Lessons

I’m a new student who wants to take lessons. How do I register?
New students:

  1. Sign-Up: Complete a Private Lessons Scheduling Request Form or contact us at 704.377.4187.
  2. Let Us Get to Know You: Our Student Services Coordinator will contact you to learn more about your lessons interest and schedule so we can match you with an instructor who will be the best fit for you.
  3. Meet Your Instructor: Our instructor will reach out to you introduce themselves and learn more about you.
  4. Final Info: Our Student Services Coordinator will finalize your registration and then make sure you have all the final details you need to get started, including our Student Handbook and info on our Parent Portal called “ASAP”.

I’m a returning student. What do I need to do to register for another semester of lessons?
Returning students:

  1. Your instructor will talk with you to confirm your schedule for the next semester and then will let our Student Services Coordinator know.
  2. We’ll be in touch with any registration finalization and payment information.
  3. To sign into your online account:
  • Click here to open the account portal
  • Enter your email address as your username and your password (If you do not know your password, select "Forgot Your Password.")
  • Select the tab titled My Billing Info
  • Select Invoices

Do I need my own instrument for lessons?
Yes, our students will need to rent or own an instrument so that they can practice throughout the week between lessons. Only through practice can students truly grow on their instrument! Our faculty and Student Services Coordinator will be happy to make recommendations on excellent music shops to either purchase or rent an instrument.

Can I make up missed lessons?
Once enrolled, students are expected to attend all lessons. Arts+ has a no-makeup policy: If a student misses a lesson or class, Arts+ will not issue a refund and instructors are not required to teach makeup lessons. If a class or lesson is canceled due to instructor illness, emergency or inclement weather, the instructor will schedule a makeup lesson at no additional cost.

How will I know about weather cancellations?
Arts+ generally follows the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools closing policy for inclement weather, but exceptions do occur based on our community partner locations and weather conditions in the evening, when most of our programs take place. In the event of bad weather or a CMS closing, parents should always check for closing information on the Arts+ website, the Arts+ Facebook page or the Arts+ main phone line at 704.377.4187. Any information on Arts+ closings will be posted by 11:00 a.m.

Lessons or classes canceled due to weather will be made up at a later date at no additional cost. Arts+ staff and faculty absolutely do not want students to venture outside in unsafe driving conditions, so please be cautious in your judgment and talk to your teacher if you don’t feel safe attending your scheduled Arts+ program. Our students and parents are precious to us, and we want you to be safe!

What is your refund policy?
We require 30-day written notice to cancel private lessons, and families will still be responsible for payment of lessons held within that 30-day period. For new students, we will refund the remainder of lesson costs if cancellation is communicated before the third lesson, after which the 30-day system takes effect.

What are the expectations for parents of private lesson students?
Arts+ asks all families to show respect for our instructors by arriving on time for lessons and fostering a professional atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Please be sure there are no disruptions to the lesson from siblings, cell phones, pets or guests. We want every minute of every lesson to be free from distractions and a valuable learning opportunity for your student. We also want parents monitoring students’ practices during the week between lessons. Students will only learn if they practice!
