Summer Studio Bytes: City of Tomorrow - July 13 - 17

Will the Charlotte of the future have flying cars? Giant waterslides? Free ice cream stands on every street corner? You decide in this week of activities that explore architecture and city design through a wide range of processes and materials, including model building and basic perspective drawing.

This summer Arts+ offers a new online twist to staying creative, “Summer Studio Bytes”. These daily activities are designed to keep kids of all ages engaged and excited about learning new visual art techniques and sharing their work in a fun, inviting, collective online studio. Each week participants receive four new visual art activity sheets, delivered directly to your inbox, covering a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, paper sculpture, bookmaking, comics, and character design. And every weekday, our faculty of teaching artists will be available on group and individual video chat to guide you through projects, step by step. For a small additional fee, our Art Supply Packs will set you up with all the paint, ink, brushes, and special materials you need to complete each project in the series.

  • Available for every age range: Kids (ages 5-7), Youth (ages 8-12) and Teen (ages 13-18)
  • Group video chats included each day (30 minutes)
  • Individual instruction video chat included each day (30 minutes)
  • Introductory and advanced activities for all ability levels
  • Work at your own pace
  • Discounts available when you purchase multiple weeks

This week’s theme is “City of Tomorrow”. 

Kids Activities include:

Youth Activities include:
- A Worm's Eye View of the City
- Van Gogh in the City
- Cityscape Reflection Prints
- 3D Castles and Cathedrals

Teen Activities include: 
- Cityscape Hills
- Acetate Cityscape Paintings
- Wonders of the World Collage
- Pop-up City

DAILY SCHEDULE (Monday – Thursday)

9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. : Kids Activity Group Chat
10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. = Kids Individual Sessions


1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. = Youth Activity Group Chat
1:45 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. = Youth Individual Sessions


3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. = Teen Activity Group Chat
3:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. = Teen Individual Sessions

PREREQUISITES
No experience necessary, but an openness to new art materials and processes is encouraged. Open to all ability levels. Each week’s activities can be easily modified for beginner to advanced students.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
Laptop, tablet, or smart phone with the Zoom app downloaded.

LEVEL OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Some preparation, guidance and assistance will be necessary for Kids activities and some Youth activities. Teen activities will be independent.

AVERAGE DAILY SCREEN TIME
1 hour

FINANCIAL AID

ART SUPPLY PACKS 
All Summer Studio Bytes participants can purchase an Art Supply Pack for an additional $35. These packs contain the basic materials for all activities and are available for each age level. (You will get to choose if you would like to add a supply pack to your order when you register.)

Art Supply Packs contain an array of materials including (but not limited to):
- Drawing and watercolor papers
- Drawing pencils and erasers
- Glue and glue sticks
- Tissue paper and collage papers
- Oil pastels
- Paint brush sets
- Canvas panels
- Acrylic paint and mediums
- Watercolors
- India ink
- Basic sculpture materials
- Basic printmaking materials

Art Supply Packs can be picked up at our studio location, The Bridge, on the Friday before the beginning of each week of camp. Complete information about pick-up is available upon request.
