Joanna Kirk

Joanna Kirk Dotson is delighted to be the Charlotte Youth Choir Assistant Director, co-directing Harmony and Lyric Choirs. She also teaches music at Webb Street School and Tryon Elementary School in Gaston County. In her instruction, Joanna strives to foster musical independence, so the students continue to love making music long after they have left the music room. She grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, where she dreamed of becoming a chorus teacher since she was 12 years old. She has now taught chorus and music at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels, most recently at the Dante Alighieri Montessori School in East Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to her move to Boston, she was the Chorus Teacher at Bear Creek Middle School in Statham, Georgia. Over her years there, she led a vibrant choral program, and she was privileged to experience the special way music can build a school community and bring families together. Joanna has a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Alabama and a Master of Music Education from the University of Georgia.
