Bill Ward

Bill Ward is a versatile musician in the Charlotte area, equally comfortable and skilled in classical, jazz, and contemporary/traditional gospel music venues. He was taught classical piano by a college music professor from Texas Southern University (Houston,Texas) for twelve years, up through high school. During this period, Bill played piano, pipe organ, and other instruments in concerts, programs, and church events. He obtained a degree in piano performance at Indiana University Bloomington, where he studied classical and jazz styles and was pianist for the music department and jazz band (Dave Baker, jazz educator). In New York, he continued working with churches, off Broadway plays, jazz groups, R&B bands, and even wrote a Gospel Mass used in Catholic services.

Since he arrived in Charlotte, he has been heavily involved in the area as Minister of Music, Pianist, and Organist for several churches, Accompanist at Temple Beth-El and Johnson C. Smith University, pianist for the Lake Norman Big Jazz Band, and as a private piano instructor. He is recognized for his skill on the Hammond Organ, and has published and produced two albums: “All in One” (smooth jazz) and “Sunday Afternoon” (gospel).
